Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 – Cinque Terre, Italy
We had a great day today with our friends, Nat & Francis Toulon traveling in the Cinque Terre region of Italy. The day could have been a challenge, as sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned. This is one of the greatest lessons of travel – when things don’t go as planned, you simply smile and adjust. Thankfully, Nat & Francis are some of those special people who can truly make lemonade from lemons.
Today the plan was to take the train to the southernmost of the five towns of the Cinque Terre and hike north from town to town and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful scenery. Well, the fact was: 1. The trains were on strike – so much for taking the train to Riomaggiore. 2. It rained – so much for enjoying the sunshine and 3. There was a rock slide just north of Manarola – there goes the five hour hike…..
